Shimano Grappler Type J Full Bend: An All-Round Full-Solid Jigging Rod
Shimano’s new Grappler Type J Full Bend is a versatile jigging rod with a full-solid blank. It combines the deep, tenacious bend only a full-solid rod gives with enough rebound to snap the jig up properly — designed so beginners and veterans alike can enjoy jigging, for targets from yellowtail to tuna and deep-water rosy seabass (akamutsu).
Four key features
- Hybrid blank with a Tough-Tec ∞ (Infinity) core. A high-strength carbon solid core keeps the full-solid bend while eliminating power loss, giving both strong jig lift and the toughness to take on big fish.
- All-round jerk performance. From slow styles — snapping the jig up on the rod’s recovery and letting it fall — to fast one-pitch jerks across the mid-water, with easy-to-time jerks and the power for pelagic runs and fights near structure.
- Full Holding Seat with CI4+. Light, sensitive and less tiring on long days.
- Flat rear grip that makes elbow-supported jerking easier, even for anglers new to full-solid rods.

Which model?
If this is your first full-solid rod, Shimano suggests the B60-1 or B60-2. Go up to B60-3–5 for heavier jigs, deeper water and bigger fish.
Minagiman’s take
Full-solid rods used to feel heavy and slow to some anglers, but a carbon solid core changes that: deep bend for fighting, real snap for jigging. At around 35,000 yen it is an easy way to try the full-solid style for many types of offshore jigging.
