Daiwa 25 Emeraldas AIR: A 155 g Eging Reel With Airdrive Design

Daiwa’s eging reel, the 25 Emeraldas AIR, has broken its own record again. The LT2500S weighs just 155 g, the lightest in the series, about the same as three medium eggs. Paired with a rod, the total tackle weight is around 230 g. It also adopts Daiwa’s Airdrive Design, which improves the reel’s balance as well as its weight.

Key features

1. Very light, for easy handling

At 155 g for the lightest model, it greatly reduces fatigue in eging, where you keep jerking all day, and lets you work the jig exactly as you want.

2. Airdrive Design

Airdrive Design combines four technologies: the Airdrive rotor, bail, spool and shaft. Together they give a lighter start-up, more responsive rotation and fewer tangles. Better weight balance and less line trouble let you focus on fishing.

3. Durability and practical features for eging

At its heart is a machine-cut Tough Digigear in extra super duralumin, so it handles the load of bringing in spring squid over a kilogram. A Power Round EVA knob gives a secure, non-slip grip.

Zaion

The body and rotor are made of Zaion, a special resin densely filled with carbon fibre and moulded with Daiwa’s own technology, for a combination of very low weight and strength.

My take

Lightness gets the attention, but the 25 Emeraldas AIR also improves weight balance with Airdrive Design and lifts the basic performance. It is a reel for everything from numbers of autumn squid to kilo-class spring squid.
