Shimano OCEA Armajoint 220F Armaboost / Flash Boost: A Jointed Big Bait That Casts
Jointed big baits have a reputation: they swim beautifully, but they do not cast far. The joint folds and flaps in the air, and the lure tumbles. Shimano’s OCEA Armajoint 220F Armaboost / Flash Boost is designed to fix that, using Shimano technology to make a jointed bait you can actually cast at distant feeding fish.
Key features
1. Armaboost: distance and straight flight
The core technology is Armaboost. On the cast, the body locks in a folded position, which cuts air resistance and stops the lure from tumbling. That lets you reach far-off busting fish on big offshore grounds with accuracy and without the usual frustration.
2. Flash Boost: keeps attracting when paused
The Flash Boost models have a reflective plate on a spring inside the body. It keeps vibrating and flashing even when the lure is sitting still, so fish still see flashes the moment you stop the retrieve.
3. Built for big fish
This is a lure for hiramasa (yellowtail amberjack), GT and tuna, so it uses wire-through construction. Shimano says it is designed so that you can keep fighting the fish even if the body is damaged.

Who it is for
- Offshore casting anglers targeting hiramasa, GT and tuna
- Anglers who like jointed baits but have given up on them because of poor distance
- Anyone who wants a different presentation from the usual diving pencils and poppers to tempt fish across a wide area
My take
The OCEA Armajoint 220F takes the main weakness of jointed big baits, casting distance, and tackles it head-on. Long casts from Armaboost, flashes on the pause from Flash Boost, and wire-through strength for big fish make it an interesting new option for offshore anglers who want to show fish something different.
