Jackall Big Backer E-Blade S: A Natural, Easy-Rising Blade Jig for Pressured Fish

You can never have too many lures that work on a straight retrieve, and they are essential in any rotation, from loud baits to natural ones. Jackall’s Big Backer E-Blade S is on the natural side.

The original Big Backer E-Blade has an asymmetric body and is known for attracting fish on the fall. It was designed with piers and offshore breakwaters in mind. The E-Blade S is built to rise easily, which also makes it useful on the surf.

Key features

Loud jigs can work against you when fish are pressured. That is where the E-Blade S comes in.

  • On a straight retrieve it swims like a plug
  • Low retrieve resistance
  • A slim body designed so that pressured fish bite more easily
  • It rises easily, so it is easy to keep in one depth band on a straight retrieve

Because it rises well, one lure can be used for a range of targets and depths.

How I would use it

  • Search first: since you only need to wind it, it is a good first lure to check whether fish are around
  • Pressured fish: switch to it after loud jigs stop getting bites
  • Surf: its lift keeps it off the sand, so you can fish a steady mid-depth band
  • Weight: 30 g for piers and calm surf, 40 g as the all-rounder, 60 g for distance and deeper water

My take

Of the three E-Blade models, the S stands out for its natural action and easy lift. Because it works with just a straight retrieve, it is a good lure to start with and see what the fish want.
