Zipbaits ZBL System Minnow 15F Returns: The Classic 150 mm Minnow Is Back
The Zipbaits ZBL System Minnow 15F is coming back. Sold for 16 years from 2004 to 2020, this classic 150 mm minnow returns after a six-year gap — right in time for autumn’s big-bait season. Whether you used it before or are hearing about it for the first time, here is what makes it special.
It is a 150 mm, 26.5 g floating minnow whose Mag-Drive weight-transfer system balances casting distance and swimming action. The reissue is scheduled for late October 2026, ready for lunker seabass, hirasuzuki, flounder and pelagics.

Key features
- Mag-Drive. On the cast the weight slides back along a shaft for distance and stable flight; when you start reeling, a magnet locks it at the front. Because it is held magnetically, the weight cannot rattle around and spoil the swim — solving the classic “casts well, swims badly” problem of big minnows.
- Tight wobble-roll with a gentle snaking path. It avoids the clumsy flapping of many big minnows, looking natural despite its size.
- Swims immediately after splashdown, so you do not miss boils or fish close in.
- #3 hooks rated for lunker seabass, hirasuzuki and pelagics.
Why the reissue matters
After it was discontinued in 2020, many anglers hunted for used ones. Plenty of 150 mm minnows exist now, but many felt nothing replaced the ZBL’s stable Mag-Drive swim. No specific changes from the original have been announced, so expect the classic performance — previous users can fish it just as before.
How and where to fish it
- Slow straight retrieve to look like a big baitfish.
- Drift on the outgoing tide at river mouths.
- White water on rocky shores for hirasuzuki.
- Big-fish surf along rip edges and drop-offs when gizzard shad are in.
Compared with other 150 mm minnows
| Lure | Size / weight | Depth | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZBL System Minnow 15F | 150 mm / 26.5 g | Not listed | Mag-Drive, natural wobble-roll |
| Bassday Hades 150F | 150 mm / 40 g | Surface to 40 cm | Heavy, long casts, wake and pauses |
| DUO Tide Minnow Slim 148F | 148 mm / 22 g | 0.5–0.8 m | Magnetic MLS weight return, slim |
| Daiwa Vertice R 156F | 156 mm / 35 g | ~0.3–1.2 m | Distance first, up to 78 m |
Tackle
| Part | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Rod | 9–10 ft seabass rod (ML–M); M or stronger for rocks and surf |
| Reel | 3000–4000 |
| Line | PE 1–1.5 with 20–30 lb leader |
At 26.5 g it casts comfortably on a normal seabass rod — far less demanding than 40 g lures.
Minagiman’s take
Autumn 2026 has brought a wave of big-bait lures, and the ZBL coming back tells you how many anglers missed that swimming action. Heavy lures for distance matter, but pressured lunkers often want a natural presentation. Carry both a “casting” lure and a “showing” lure — the ZBL 15F is the classic showing lure. Reissues often sell out, so watch the release date.
