Jackson Autumn 2026 Small Gear: Aluminium Fish Grip, One-Touch Lock Mini Pliers and Angler’s Pouch
Lure maker Jackson has released three new pieces of small gear for autumn 2026, the kind you use on every trip: an aluminium fish grip, a set of mini pliers, and an angler’s pouch. They are useful for winter trips, and they would also make good small gifts.
| Item | Price in Japan (inc. tax) | In brief |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium Fish Grip | ¥5,500 | Light aluminium alloy body, opens to 3.4 cm |
| One-Touch Lock Mini Pliers | ¥2,035 | For #1–4 split rings, light game to seabass |
| Angler’s Pouch | M ¥2,640 / L ¥3,190 | Sized to fit Jackson’s Gear Bakkan and Gear Container |
1. Aluminium Fish Grip
- Light aluminium alloy body: easy to wear on a belt or vest
- High-strength stainless jaws: hold big fish securely
- Non-slip rubber grip: easy to hold with wet hands
- Distance between the jaws and your hand: safer when a fish thrashes
- Maximum opening of 3.4 cm: suits a wide range of fish
- Colours: Black and Gunmetal, both ¥5,500
When you handle fish with sharp teeth or spines, such as flounder, yellowtail and ribbonfish (tachiuo), a fish grip makes a big difference to safety. In the ribbonfish and Spanish mackerel seasons it is essential.
2. One-Touch Lock Mini Pliers
- Three tools in one: split ring opener, line cutter and eye tuner
- Rings: #1 to #4
- Slim nose: reaches hooks deep in a fish’s mouth and opens small rings easily
- One-touch lock: closes compactly when not in use
- Black, ¥2,035
The eye tuner lets you bend a lure’s eye to fix a minnow that does not swim straight.
| Pliers | Rings | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| One-Touch Lock Mini Pliers | #1–4 | Ajing, mebaru, seabass, small to mid-size surf lures |
| Large pliers (other brands) | #5 and up | Shore jigging, rock-shore and offshore big rings |
Using pliers matched to your ring size makes changes faster and is kinder to your rings and lures.
3. Angler’s Pouch
A pouch for big plugs, leaders, pliers, belt-pack life jackets, shoes and lure cases. It is sized to fit Jackson’s Angler’s Gear Bakkan (a rigid tackle tub) and Gear Container exactly.
| Size | Dimensions | Price (inc. tax) | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| M | 190 × 245 × 120 mm | ¥2,640 | Four fit in the Gear Bakkan |
| L | 225 × 415 × 155 mm | ¥3,190 | Six fit in the Gear Container |
Both sizes come in grey and khaki. They split the inside of a tub into sections, which helps if the gear in your car always ends up in a jumble.
Using all three together
- On your belt: the fish grip and mini pliers
- In the car or tub: the M pouch for leaders, snaps and spare hooks, and the L for shoes and a belt-pack life jacket
- Light game days: just the mini pliers, and travel light
The most important thing with small gear is to keep the same items in the same place, where you can reach them quickly. Not fumbling during a short bite window turns directly into fish.
Safety tips
- Grip the lower jaw firmly, and support heavy fish under the body
- Do not swing a fish around by the grip if you plan to release it
- Use pliers to keep your hand away from the fish when unhooking
- Check which way the points face before removing trebles or double hooks
- Rinse with fresh water and dry before storing
- Attach grips and pliers to your belt or vest with a lanyard or carabiner
On winter rocks and piers, cold hands make it easy to drop gear. Reaching for something you dropped on bad footing is dangerous, so it is better not to drop it in the first place.
My take
Fish grips and pliers often get bought last, after rods and reels, but they are what you use on every single trip. These three new items focus on lightness, grip and storage: the kind of practical details you would expect from a lure maker that knows the water well. Prices from about ¥2,000 to ¥5,500 also make them easy gift ideas for the end of the year.
