Daiwa 27 Zillion SV TW 100: What’s New in the First Full Change in Six Years
Daiwa’s Zillion SV TW has long been the reel Japanese anglers recommend as a first baitcaster. Now, after six years, it gets a full model change. The new 27 Zillion SV TW 100 still weighs 175 g — but the brake, body and gears are all new. Here is what changed compared with the 21 model.
Release: December 2026 in Japan. Daiwa calls it a “super versatile” reel for every bass style, and it is salt-rated for seabass and rockfish too.

Key features
- SV BOOST-I — a new brake, a first for Daiwa. Daiwa analysed the braking-torque data of the digital INTELLIGENT MAGFORCE brake in its IM Z reels and recreated that behaviour in an analogue brake. It keeps the SV concept’s easy, backlash-resistant casting while adding distance and better carry at the end of the cast, with less noise thanks to improved AIR brake parts. No batteries, but borrowed digital smarts.
- GRAVITY BALANCE BODY. A new Infinite Stopper about 38.8% thinner and a thin aluminium gear side plate allow a shorter gear shaft, bringing the handle knob 4.6 mm closer to the reel foot. Weight stays at 175 g, but the balance improves palming, casting accuracy and retrieve stability.
- Solid pinion. A solid pinion replaces the hollow one; at the same diameter and ratio it is over 20% stronger.
- Tapered TWS. The level-wind opening is about 31% wider, with a DLC coating for smoother line release.
- Oil injection cap. The sub-brake (Zero Adjuster) is gone; instead you can oil the pinion bearing yourself with the supplied tool — handy for saltwater users.
- New thinner ZAION star drag with UTD drag and a drag click.
- HYPERDRIVE DESIGN gearing keeps the Zillion’s trademark tough, smooth wind.

Other Daiwa options
- 26 Zillion TW 150: 36 mm spool, 215 g — better for heavy lures and long PE casts.
- 25 Tatula SV TW 100: same SV brake family at less than half the price.
- 24 Steez SV TW 100: the flagship — lighter and more refined, where the Zillion is about toughness.
Minagiman’s take
Versatile reels often end up “good at everything, great at nothing”. The Zillion became the go-to by being tough. The 27 model keeps that character and quietly upgrades casting, feel and strength without adding weight — a great update for people who already love the reel. If you want a low gear, though, grab a 21 model 5.5 while you still can.
