DUO’s new Beach Walker Vista 100S is a jig-minnow built specifically for surf flounder. It uses a high-density, centre-balanced design to combine long casts, a level fall and the ability to stay in the depth zone you want, even in strong current.

Key features

1. High-density centre balance for long casts

At 100 mm and 34 g, it carries a lot of weight for its size, so it casts well even into head or crosswinds on the surf. A weight-transfer system would add more distance, but a fixed weight gives a more stable action, which is the trade-off DUO has chosen here.

2. A level fall and good range control

It falls almost level and resists rising on the retrieve. On the surf, keeping the lure in a steady band near the bottom is key, but most lures rise, drag on the sand, or get pushed off course by current. The Vista’s design keeps it stable in current, holding the depth you want.

3. Clear retrieve feel and bottom contact

Flounder lie in wait on drop-offs (sudden changes in the slope of the seabed), where baitfish gather. Whether you can feel those changes through your lure makes a big difference. The Vista gives clear feedback on retrieve resistance, current changes and bottom contact, so you can work the spots where flounder should be.

How I would fish it

  • Bottom and slow retrieve: let it hit bottom, then retrieve slowly so it swims just above the sand
  • Lift and fall: lift it off the bottom and let it fall level, where many flounder bites come
  • Feel for the drop-off: when the resistance changes or it ticks the bottom, slow down there
  • Use it in current: its stability makes it a good choice near rips and outflows

My take

The Vista 100S combines long casts from its high-density centre balance with a level fall and good range control. It keeps the lure in the strike zone and tells you about the bottom. With 13 colours to match conditions, it is a great choice for anyone starting surf flatfish fishing.
