Jackall Sabull Overhead: A Surf Jig Head That Casts Like a Metal Jig

Many surf anglers use sinking pencils and metal jigs, but plenty also fish soft plastics. The problem with soft plastics on the surf is distance: it is hard to cover water, and you end up walking and searching close in. Jackall’s Sabull Overhead is a jig head that casts like a metal jig. It is designed specifically for the surf, and built to avoid dragging along the bottom on shallow beaches.

Key features

1. Huge casting distance

It uses Jackall’s long-stroke moving line eye. On the cast, the line eye slides to the very back of the head, which stabilises flight and reduces wind resistance for big distance. Once you start retrieving, the eye moves back to the front, and the head is designed to rise easily. That keeps bottom contact to a minimum, even on shallow beaches and flats.

2. Worm keeper and treble hooks

A worm keeper stops the soft plastic sliding down on a full cast. The hook system uses two treble hooks linked by a triple swivel, which improves hook-ups compared with a single-hook jig head and reduces lost fish.

Overhead vs Sensy jig head

The Sabull range also includes the Sensy Jig Head. The Overhead is built for long casts. The Sensy is for working close to mid range at a quick pace, or with finer actions.

How I would use it

  • Long casts on shallow beaches: reach distant drop-offs, then retrieve steadily without dragging
  • Weight: 15–21 g for calm, shallow beaches; 28–35 g for wind and distance
  • Soft plastics for wary fish: switch from hard lures when flounder are not reacting

My take

It is not just heavy: the moving eye cuts air resistance, and the head shape is designed to rise. That makes it a jig head built for the surf. With weights from 15 g, it fits a lot of situations, and lets you cover wide areas with soft plastics.
