Gamakatsu Yoihime Stealth Glide: The Odd-Looking Ajing Jighead Built for Big Aji
One ajing jighead has everyone saying “what on earth is that shape?”: Gamakatsu’s new Yoihime Stealth Glide. The eye sticks up from the head on a long stalk — a shape you have never seen. There is a clear reason for it.
It belongs to Gamakatsu’s light-game brand Yoihime, and its defining feature is the long-leg eye. It was developed under aji specialist Shinichiro Fujiwara, aimed squarely at big aji.
Line-up
| Weight | Hook | Per pack | Japan price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.6 g | #2 | 4 | 450 yen |
| 0.8 g | #2 | 4 | 450 yen |
| 1.0 g | #2 | 4 | 450 yen |
| 1.5 g | #2 | 4 | 450 yen |
| 2.0 g | #2 | 4 | 450 yen |
| 2.5 g | #2 | 4 | 450 yen |
Every weight uses a heavy-wire #2 hook — larger than typical ajing jigheads — built around big aji and long worms. Prices exclude tax.
Why the long-leg eye?
- Stable flight for distance. The tall eye is thought to keep the jighead stable in the air, helping you reach the spot accurately even in wind.
- No spinning — it just sinks quietly straight down. This is the main goal: a “stealth” fall that does not spook wary big aji. A rig that spins or wobbles unnaturally on the fall gets ignored by pressured fish.
Hook and worm-holding details
- Heavy-wire #2 hook for big aji and long worms (all weights)
- Micro barb balancing penetration and holding
- Nano Alpha coating to reduce friction and improve penetration
- Worm keeper bumps that hold without tearing the worm
- Easy to rig straight — even longer worms go on straight first time
A crooked worm alone makes the rig spin on the fall, so easy straight rigging is essential for that no-spin descent.
How to fish it
- Start with a free fall — no extra action, just let it sink quietly.
- Count to find the depth, then repeat the same count.
- Keep actions small — let the fall do the work.
- Pair it with a long worm for a bigger silhouette for big aji.
| Weight | When |
|---|---|
| 0.6–1.0 g | Light wind, aji near the surface to mid-depth |
| 1.5 g | Some wind, searching mid-depths |
| 2.0–2.5 g | Strong wind, deep water, fast current |
Versus other jigheads
| Jighead | Hook | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Yoihime Stealth Glide | #2 (all weights) | Sinks quietly without spinning; big aji and long worms |
| Yoihime AJ Custom (e.g. TG Round) | #4 etc. | Standard ajing jighead for most situations |
| Daiwa Gekkabijin ajing jigheads | Fine-wire, small | Easy intake for small to medium aji |
Use AJ Custom-type heads for everyday ajing, and Stealth Glide for big aji or when pressured fish refuse the fall.
Why it suits winter
Winter pier lights are crowded and aji get pressured, with jigheads passing every night. Winter is also when fat, larger aji mix in — and they are the wariest. That is when a quiet-sinking Stealth Glide with a long worm should shine.
- Start at 1.0 g, then adjust once you find the layer.
- Rig the worm perfectly straight.
- Watch for bites on the fall — including line movement.
- If you only catch small aji, switch back to a small-hook jighead.
Other targets
| Target | Tip |
|---|---|
| Good-size mebaru | Quiet falls near the surface to mid-depth under lights |
| Barracuda (kamasu) | The heavy #2 hook copes with toothy fish |
| Rockfish | 2.0–2.5 g near the bottom |
Minagiman’s take
Ajing jighead design has mostly been about lighter and easier to suck in. Stealth Glide takes a different route: removing unwanted movement on the fall. Big aji are wary and refuse anything unnatural, so catching them by not moving makes a lot of sense for pressured winter lights. At 450 yen for four, try one or two of your most-used weights.
