Maria Rapido / Legato Haste F190: Low-Density Diving Pencils for Picky Pelagics
Maria’s Rapido F190 and Legato F190 are staples of Japanese rock-shore pelagic fishing. Now both get a low-density spin-off: HASTE. It is an action-first model designed for the frustrating moments when fish chase but will not bite.
The Haste F190 is a 190 mm diving pencil made from a lighter body material than the standard models. More buoyancy means a faster response to every rod input — “haste” means hurry. Sales began on Maria’s online store on 19 October 2026, first come, first served.

What makes Haste different
- Low-density body, more buoyancy. After each dive it rises back faster, so it transitions into the next action quicker.
- Sharp response to jerks and twitches. Maria highlights the crisp return after diving and the sharp flash as it rolls.
- Action over ease of use. It trades some controllability for action. It is not an everyday lure but a trump card for when fish chase without eating.
Standard vs Haste
| Situation | Choice |
|---|---|
| Active fish, covering water | Standard Rapido / Legato F190 |
| Wind and waves make control hard | Standard (more weight, easier to handle) |
| Fish chase but do not bite | Haste — fast action to flip the switch |
| Pressured fish need a sharp flash | Haste |
Search with the standard model, then switch to Haste when you can see fish but they will not commit.
Rapido or Legato?
- Rapido Haste (62 g): use the extra weight for distance and windy days.
- Legato Haste (57 g): a slightly lighter feel for crisp action.
- Not sure? Choose the Haste version of the series you already use, so you feel the difference clearly.
How to fish it
- Jerk to dive it, and let the fast rise show it off.
- Twitch to make it roll and flash sharply.
- Use the pause as it rises after the dive.
- When you see a chase, make the action fast and sharp to trigger the strike.
Tackle
| Part | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Rod | Rock-shore casting rod for plugs up to about 60–80 g |
| Reel | 8000–14000 saltwater spinning reel |
| Line | About PE 4–6 with nylon or fluorocarbon leader |
Kingfish (hiramasa) and yellowtail dive hard for the rocks. Use the recommended hook and ring sizes and match the strength of your whole line system.
Where Haste shines
| Scene | Why |
|---|---|
| Boils but no bites | The sharp rise and roll make it stand out from the bait |
| Chases stop at your feet | The quick return after a dive creates a bite window |
| After the dawn bite fades | Crisp action can switch fish on again |
| Crowded rocks, pressured fish | A different action from what they have seen |
How to buy
Haste F190 is a limited, first-come release on Maria’s online store, with a special Maria zip bag; early-release lures have a red back logo. No general tackle-shop release has been announced.
Minagiman’s take
In rock-shore pelagic fishing, fish that show but refuse are painfully common. When size and colour changes do not help, crisp, fast action is often what finally works. Haste is built for that last move — not an all-rounder, but one in the box can turn days that end in chases into days that end in hook-ups.
