Jackson Athlete Dart 12SP: A Sinking Pencil That Darts Hard and Still Holds Its Depth
Jackson’s Athlete Dart 12SP is a sinking pencil that aims to combine a sharp, wide darting action with good range control. Lures that dart well usually rise when you work them, which makes it hard to keep them in the zone where the fish are. The Athlete Dart is designed to fix that.
Key features
1. A darting action designed from the ground up
It is a 120 mm sinking pencil developed with sharp darting as the top priority. “Sharp” does not mean narrow here: it has a long, wide dart that gives fish more to react to. It should be especially effective when fish are active.
2. Dart and range control together
Darting and staying in one depth band are normally hard to combine in a sinking pencil. Usually, the better a lure darts, the more it climbs when worked. The Athlete Dart has been improved so it stays in the target layer. It is also designed to reduce line tangles.
3. Eight colours
Eight colours, from natural ones like Green Back Yellow, Katakuchi (anchovy) and Iwashi Glow to loud ones like Kuro no Shogeki (black) and Pearl Pink Glow.

How I would use it
- Rod twitches with pauses: short jerks to make it dart, then a pause
- Count down first: since it holds its depth, start working it at the layer where fish are
- Active fish: when yellowtail or seabass are chasing, the long dart triggers reaction bites
My take
A sharp dart plus easy range control is the main appeal. Because it is also designed to reduce tangles, it is easy to use whatever your experience level. From now on, whether a darting lure can hold its depth is likely to be as important as the action itself.
