Daiwa Sea Cool Carry III: A 25 L Wheeled Cooler Sized for Fishing Trips by Train
If you go fishing by train, choosing a cooler is hard. A folding soft cooler is easy to carry but does not keep things cold for long. A big hard cooler is better, but wheels and long handles can be a problem in crowded trains and at ticket gates. Daiwa’s Sea Cool Carry III is a 25-litre hard cooler sized for that middle ground. It is aimed at day trips to piers, fishing parks and party boats, and it was released in Japan in September 2026.
Key features
- Non-slip feet (Daiwa calls them “Funbaru-man”) on every grade
- A telescopic handle that extends to about 87 cm, plus quiet wheels
- Sized to fit through Japanese ticket gates, so it works for train trips
- Three grades of insulation, with KEEP ratings from 60 to 70
All grades have the non-slip feet, so the cooler stays put on a rocking boat or a moving train. Every grade also has wheels and a telescopic handle, so you can move a heavy load without lifting it.
Despite the 25 L size, it is laid out to hold a lunch box, a block of ice, drinks and small items, with room left for your catch. Optional accessories (the CP slatted tray and CP luggage net) help keep things in place.
Lineup
| Model and colours | Insulation | KEEP | Weight | Price in Japan (ex. tax) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S2500 Sage / Caramel | Polystyrene | 60 | 4.2 kg | ¥26,800 |
| GU2500 Blossom Pink / Lilac | Urethane foam | 65 | 4.6 kg | ¥32,400 |
| SU2500 Ice Blue | Vacuum panel on the base + urethane | 70 | 4.8 kg | ¥39,800 |
Inside dimensions are 15 × 38.5 × 31 cm and outside dimensions are 33 × 53.5 × 38.5 cm (39 cm for the SU2500), with the handle retracted, for every grade. KEEP is Daiwa’s own cold-retention rating, based on ice remaining after 8 hours in a 40°C room, using a simplified JIS method.
Which grade?
- S2500: the value choice for day trips to piers and fishing parks. Polystyrene insulation, KEEP 60
- GU2500: a better choice if you fish in midsummer heat. Urethane foam, KEEP 65
- SU2500: the safest choice for long trips in strong sun. A vacuum panel on the base, KEEP 70
Coolers are usually plain white or grey, so the five colours are a nice touch.
My take
The Sea Cool Carry III fits a hard cooler with wheels into a size that still works on public transport. For anglers who travel by train to piers or party boats, it is a practical middle option between a soft cooler and a big box. Pick the grade to match how hot your days are and how long you stay out.
