Daiwa Saltiga Blade Jig SS: A Lead Blade Jig for Spanish Mackerel From 1,300 Yen

Daiwa Saltiga Blade Jig SS
minagiman

Daiwa is releasing a new blade-jigging (BLJ) jig in October 2026: the Saltiga Blade Jig SS. Its biggest feature is that it is made of lead, not tungsten – and priced from 1,300 yen (excl. tax), affordable for a blade jig.

Spanish mackerel blade fishing is notorious for losing jigs to snags and to teeth biting through the line. Losing expensive tungsten jigs one after another hurts, so a lead option is welcome.

All lead. “S” models come with a single hook, “D” with a double. Body-only lengths: 6.8 cm (40 g), 7.3 cm (50 g), 8.2 cm (60 g), 9.2 cm (80 g). Supervised by Daiwa’s Yuta Naruse.

Features

1. Lead – cost-effective

Tungsten blade jigs are popular, but expensive – several thousand yen each is not unusual. At 1,300-1,500 yen, losing a Blade Jig SS to a bite-off or a snag hurts much less. Daiwa also describes it as easy for beginners to use.

2. A rear-balanced, asymmetric body

Rear weight for distance; a deliberately asymmetric left-right balance for stability in the water. Blade jigging is mostly cast-and-fast-retrieve, and the jig is built to stay steady on both.

3. SaqSas ball-bearing swivel

The swivel that spins the blade is a SaqSas ball-bearing swivel – Daiwa quotes about six times the rotation and 3.5 times the wear durability of a standard plated swivel. A well-spinning blade means flash and vibration. Oval split rings add strength, and blades are colour-matched to the body.

Single or double hook?

Best whenSnaggy ground; less damage to fishBetter hook-ups, fewer lost fish

Spanish mackerel have sharp teeth and hard mouths, so double hooks are popular now. Single hooks snag less and are easier to remove. To prioritise hook-ups, start with a D model; for more colour choice, the five S colours.

Choosing a weight

WeightGuide
40 gShallow water, slack current, small bait
50 gThe baseline – start here
60 gSlightly deeper, faster current
80 gDeep water, two-layer current, long casts

Blade jigging is mostly done from boats. If unsure, carry 50 and 60 g and go heavier if you cannot find bottom. Daiwa does not say whether it is for shore use, but 40-60 g can be cast on shore jigging rods – check your rod’s rating.

Colours

Eight: PH Maiwashi, MG Double Orange Zebra Glow, ML Keimura Emerald Green Gold, ML Keimura Iwashi Glow Berry, MG Purple Edge Pink, DH Green Silver Red Belly, DH Lime Chart and PH Purple Gold Zebra Glow. PH Maiwashi for clear water and sardine bait; zebra glow or DH Lime Chart for dawn and stained water.

Things to note

  • Being lead, the silhouette is bigger than a tungsten jig of the same weight.
  • Double hooks only on three colours – swap hooks if you want a double on another colour.
  • Mainly for boat blade jigging; check rod ratings for shore use.

Summary

  • A lead BLJ jig supervised by Yuta Naruse.
  • 40, 50, 60 and 80 g; 1,300-1,500 yen (excl. tax).
  • Rear-balanced asymmetric body for distance and stability.
  • SaqSas ball-bearing swivel for a well-spinning blade.
  • Single (5 colours) and double (3 colours) versions.

With tungsten prices soaring, many anglers have been looking for lead blade jigs. Spanish mackerel season means losing jigs – this one is easy to stock up on.
