Daiwa Morethan Soft Wake 150F: A Soft Wake Bait for Low-Activity Seabass
What do you do when seabass will not react to anything? Many of us just pack up and go home. Daiwa has a lure that might change that: the Morethan Soft Wake 150F, designed for pressured seabass and days when nothing gets a response. It looks set to become a staple of the rotation.

Key construction
The standout is the bellows tail, which produces vibration even while the lure is just floating.
Core body
A rattle and a moving-weight system – hard to fit in a typical soft swimbait – are built into a core inside the soft body. It keeps the natural look of a soft exterior while adding casting performance and sound.
Soft lip
Wide-action lures often lose their action when wound fast because resistance builds up. The Soft Wake’s lip tip flexes, so on a fast retrieve it shifts to a tighter action instead of blowing out.
Bellows tail
The heart of the lure: a bellows-style tail that pulses even when stopped. Instead of only retrieving, you can build “drift”, “float” and “wait” into the fishing – the key to wary fish.
Where to use it
- Bait is visible, but surface lures get no response.
- Light-and-shadow lines, bridge pilings and harbours where you want to show the lure for longer.
- Drifting into current seams and letting it hang naturally.
- Re-running a productive line slowly after searching fast.
- Low-activity, pressured seabass that dislike the vibration and flash of hard lures.
At 150 mm and 33 g it has real presence, so it is not ideal for micro-bait patterns. Watch the season, current, wind and pressure, and start with slow retrieves and pauses.
What makes it interesting
Its appeal is that it can be fished dead slow, paused or wound fast. Above all, it works the subtle layer just under the surface – for seabass that are looking up but will not commit to a surface lure. (For a lure that makes them break the surface, see the Burst Upper 180F.)
When fish stop responding, the usual move is to cover lots of water fast. Having a dead-slow option too makes the fishing more interesting.
