Shimano Game Shoes FS-092Z: Light Cut Rubber Pin Felt Shoes for Piers and Rocks
Pier tips, tetrapod edges, boulder beaches — the scariest thing in shore fishing is not losing a fish, it is slipping. Shimano’s new Game Shoes Cut Rubber Pin Felt FS-092Z are a light, low-cut fishing shoe for everyday piers, small rocks and boulder shores, without the weight of full rock boots.

Key features
- Cut Rubber Pin Felt sole. Felt, rubber and metal pins are placed where each works best, gripping on many surfaces — including while you brace during a fight, and on the FRP decks of ferry boats that take you to offshore rocks.
- Low-cut for free ankle movement and easy walking when you move from spot to spot.
- High-instep, wide fit shaped for Japanese feet, with flat laces that lock down well — your foot does not slide inside the shoe on angled rock.
- One-piece upper in abrasion-resistant material: fewer seams and glue lines means fewer weak points.
- Rubber midsole protects the sole bond, widens the contact area and guards the upper.
- Resoleable through Shimano’s repair service. Worn felt is dangerous — replace it early.
How to choose a fishing sole
| Sole | Good on | Weak on |
|---|---|---|
| Rubber | Dry concrete, sand, boats | Weedy rock, wet tetrapods |
| Felt | Weedy, wet rock | Dry concrete, sand, slopes |
| Felt spike | Rocks, boulders, rivers | Boat decks (scratches), concrete |
| Cut Rubber Pin Felt | Rocks, boulders, piers, ferry decks | Long walks on sand |
Cut Rubber Pin Felt combines felt’s wet-rock grip, rubber’s dry-surface and deck grip, and the bite of pins. For anglers who fish many types of ground, it is the hardest sole to go wrong with. For sand-only surf fishing, though, a radial-sole wader or shoe is easier to walk in.
Shimano Cut Rubber Pin Felt shoes compared
| Model | Weight (26 cm) | Price (excl. tax) | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game Shoes FS-092Z | 465 g | 20,900 yen | Low-cut, flat laces, factory resole |
| Geolock Game Shoes FS-273Y | 540 g | 24,000 yen | Geolock: swap soles yourself |
| Quick Game Shoes FS-081Z | 750 g | 28,500 yen | BOA dial, ankle belt, non-waterproof rock shoe |
The FS-092Z is the lightest and cheapest of the three. Fish a lot and wear soles fast? The Geolock FS-273Y. Serious rock hopping? The FS-081Z. Daiwa’s Felt Spike DS-2504 is another option, but spikes can scratch boat decks.
Who it suits
- Pier anglers who also stand on tetrapods, slipways and wet ground
- Shore jigging, eging and rockfish anglers on boulder beaches and small rocks
- Anyone who wants to move around without heavy rock boots
- Anglers who ride ferry boats to the rocks
- Anyone still fishing in sneakers or rubber boots
Sneakers on tetrapods are genuinely dangerous — weedy concrete is like ice under a normal rubber sole. Think of fishing shoes as safety gear, not a way to catch more fish.
Sizing and care
- Start with your normal shoe size and allow for thick winter socks.
- Rinse salt and sand off with fresh water after every trip.
- Dry in the shade, away from direct sun.
- Check felt wear and pin condition before each trip.
Shimano does not list it as waterproof, so wear socks that can get wet.
Minagiman’s take
Many anglers spend big on rods and reels but still fish in sneakers, yet falls on piers, tetrapods and boulders are the most common accidents in fishing. The FS-092Z gives you a proper rock-shoe sole at a lighter weight and price — a solid “one good pair” for everyday shore fishing.
