Daiwa Morethan Minient 57 Review: A Small, Tangle-Free Vibration for Harbours and Rivers
Ask anglers for an “easy” lure and you get very different answers – some lures are designed to be easy, others just feel easy because you have used them for years. Daiwa’s Morethan Minient 57 is one built from the start to be easy for anyone: a 57 mm, 11.5 g sinking vibration that casts straight, does not tangle, and works at almost any speed.
It is aimed at harbours and city rivers, but it is small enough to be useful almost anywhere there are small baitfish.
What it does
- Casts well for its size. The flight is stable, and it holds its line in crosswind and headwind.
- Works at any speed. A slow retrieve gives a natural rolling action; a fast retrieve gives a tight, quick wobble.
- “3D Dart.” Jerk it and it darts left and right – Daiwa’s name for the erratic action.
- Trouble-free. Daiwa specifically designed out hooks catching the line in flight, and reduced spiralling on the fall. Small lures with two trebles are notorious for tangling; this one does not.
- Falls slightly head-down, so it reaches the bottom cleanly.

How it fished
- Distance: at around 11 g it is light, but it still reaches 30 m or more depending on the wind – plenty for harbours and rivers.
- Sink rate: it sinks slowly, so in water about 2 m deep you can fish it without constantly worrying about snagging the bottom.
- Size: 57 mm is right for micro-bait – small sardine, whitebait, juvenile mullet – and for active fish feeding near the top.
- Range of actions: what I liked most is that one lure gives you several different ways to fish.
How to fish it
- Straight retrieve, changing speed to find a response.
- Add falls to give the fish a pause to eat.
- Still nothing? Mix in 3D darts – short jerks – with irregular falls between them.
Because it responds even to a slow retrieve, it also works when fish are sluggish – which makes it a good lure for anyone trying to carry fewer lures.
Where it fits
| Situation | Why the Minient 57 |
|---|---|
| Harbours and city rivers at night | Small, quiet profile; easy to fish slowly |
| Micro-bait (whitebait, tiny sardine) | 57 mm matches the bait |
| Shallow water about 2 m deep | Slow sink means fewer snags |
| Beginners or travel kit | Tangle-free and works on a simple retrieve |
It is a natural partner to the autumn seabass approach in Japanese seabass in autumn, especially in September when the bait is still small.
Verdict
The Minient 57 does not try to be clever. It casts straight, it does not tangle, and it swims at whatever speed you wind. For harbour and river seabass, small pelagics on micro-bait, or anyone who wants one small lure that covers a lot of situations, it is an easy one to recommend.
